This inaugural race will be set in some of the most beautiful scenery that southern Wisconsin has to offer. Partnering with the Polka on the Riverway festival, the race will be sure to hold one of the best post-race parties known to the sport. Lederhosen and accordions galore!
Designed to encourage both the curious athlete and the seasoned veteran, the SPOLKA will allow you to put into the race as much as you want. There will be both a short and long course option allowing teams of two or three (three person is coed only). Divisions will be 2-person open, 2-person coed and three person coed (note: there is no 3-person open division i.e. male-male-male or female-female-female).
Adding the sport of orienteering is what truly separates an adventure race from trail runs or triathlons. The SPOLKA will allow you to stay on the trails to get the checkpoints with the lowest point value, but if you choose to go for more difficult checkpoints off the trails, you'll be rewarded with a higher point tally, outranking other teams that scored less points. Route choice, decision making and effective, efficient planning is what makes teams winners, not necessarily speed (although it helps!).
Please note: if you would like to race as a solo competitor, you must contact the Race Director.
