Evan began his addiction to Adventure Racing (AR) when he quit his addiction to cigarettes. He found that running around in the woods and mountain biking on tight and windy trails was much more appealing than being out of breath after a flight of stairs. Evan quickly progressed from races like the Muddy Buddy and the Redbird Challenge, to longer, more intense competitions like the 24hr Sweaty Otter, 24hr South Kettle Moraine Challenge, 24hr Thunder Rolls, Great Mississippi River Adventure Series, etc, etc, etc...An accomplished public speaker, Evan has presented the topic of AR to the public at REI, Sauk Prairie Endurance Club, High Tech Happy Hour to name a few. Spreading the word of AR means a lot to him. It's helped change his life and has made so many friends because of the sport. April & Ellie Hernann taught Evan how to plot UTMs, Heather Kluch taught him how to run and talk gibberish, Rod McLennan taught him how to read a map like it was his own handwriting while on the move and most importantly, Evan taught himself how to enjoy every second of his life.

Evan lives in Madison, WI with his wife Angie and year-old son, Frankie. They are expecting their second child in August 2011. Evan and Frankie like to cross-country ski, hike, walk their two three-legged dogs, and get better at Parkour at the kids' playground! He recently found out that his great-grandfather was instrumental in the Cincinnati Boys Scouts and was an Eagle Scout. Though he never participated in Boys Scouts, this may explain Evan's extreme fondness for being where there is no TV, no Internet and no GPS...just a man with his thoughts, a map and a compass.
